"In her eyes I see something more beautiful than the stars". This opera length pure silk glove has the traditional mousquetaire button opening on the inside of the wrist, to allow the hand to be removed from the glove without taking the glove off the arm. Elegance understated.
The silk that we use is a pure silk jersey knit that has been used for glovemaking for centuries. It has a lustrous gleam that only silk can deliver. There is no mistaking the real thing. If you'd like to see swatches of our Silk in various colours to help you decide, you can order them here.
16 BL (button length). This is the length of the glove, in inches, from where the thumb seam meets the wrist to the hem at the top of the glove.
How to measure glove size
Here is how you convert from centimetres to inches:
How do I guess someone's glove size?
If you are buying gloves for someone and don't know their glove size (and don't want to ruin the surprise), their height can indicate their most likely glove size. Please note, this is statistically most likely but won't be correct 100% of the time.
Applies to women only
|Height||Most likely glove size|
|5'1" to 5'6"||7|
|5'7" to 5'8"||7½|
|5'9" to 5'11"||8|
Forearm & upper arm fit
For our longer gloves, we take a measurement for forearm and upper arm fit. This is to ensure the glove is an appropriate and flattering fit for your arm.
To measure your forearm fit, hold your arm outstretched and pass a tape measure around your forearm at the broadest point. The resulting measurement, in inches, is your forearm fit.
To take measure your upper arm fit, hold your arm outstretched and pass a tape measure around your bicep at the mid point - the resulting measurement, in inches, is your upper arm fit.
To convert centimetres to inches, divide by 2.54 - e.g. 20 centimetres = 7.9 inches

This glove features the traditional mousquetaire opening. The mousquetaire is a buttoned opening on the inside of the wrist of a long glove. Its purpose is to allow the wearer to remove the hand from the glove whilst keeping the sleeve of the glove on the arm. The empty ‘hand’ of the glove is then neatly tucked up inside the sleeve. At a very formal banquet or dinner, it is ‘incorrect’ to wield knife and fork in a gloved hand and the mousquetaire opening offers a way around this social hurdle. It is also most helpful when a ring finger needs to be made available at a wedding.
Desdemona in the wild
The hub of our glovemaking operation is a small, flint walled building that was built some 150 years ago to house dairy cows. All around us are pastures. A mile to the south, the green hills of the South Downs separate us from the salt seas of the English Channel.
It takes a lot to make a good pair of gloves. Great fabrics, selected with great care from mills large and small, skill and people with a passion for making things just right.
Almost everything we make is made to order. So that the person who is making your gloves knows exactly what you want in terms of glove size, style and dimensions. They will also know your name and you will know theirs because, when they’ve finished your gloves and they’re completely happy with them, they will sign the tag to say so.
Our box, like our gloves, is built to last. For us, it's about the product, not the packaging, but when we designed our box we made sure it was beautiful and timeless.
