Matériau : Silk Georgette

Silk Georgette is a finely woven crepe silk distinguished by its lightness, movement, and subtle transparency. Like crepe de chine, it is made using highly twisted silk yarns, but the weave is finer and more open, resulting in a fabric that feels noticeably airier and more expressive.

The surface has a soft, matte finish with a delicate grain, but the hand feel is lighter and drier than crepe de chine. Where crepe de chine feels smooth and gently substantial, georgette feels almost weightless — designed to float rather than drape. It has a gentle elasticity that creates soft ripples and movement instead of clean, sculpted folds.

Georgette’s semi-sheer nature allows light to pass through the fabric, subtly softening colour and pattern. Dyes are absorbed beautifully, but appear more nuanced and atmospheric than the saturated, ink-rich tones seen in crepe de chine.

In wear, silk georgette excels when ease and movement are the priority. It layers effortlessly, adds softness without visual weight, and feels particularly comfortable in warmer conditions. It is less structured than crepe de chine and offers less coverage, but in return provides a sense of lightness and fluidity that feels relaxed and romantic.

Why choose silk georgette over crepe de chine?
Choose georgette if you want a scarf that moves, floats, and feels barely there — ideal for softer styling, layering, and warm-weather wear. Choose crepe de chine if you prefer a more substantial feel, cleaner drape, richer colour saturation, and a slightly more polished, structured look.

Both are luxurious silks; the difference lies in presence. Crepe de chine is refined and grounded. Georgette is airy and expressive.

Silk Georgette Soins

Silk georgette is exceptionally light and delicate, and should be handled with extra care.

  • Cleaning: Dry clean recommended. Hand washing is possible but should be done sparingly and gently.
  • Washing: Use cold water and a mild silk detergent. Handle minimally and never rub or twist.
  • Drying: Lay flat on a towel to dry. Avoid hanging while wet, as the fabric may stretch.
  • Ironing: Steam lightly or iron on a low silk setting with a pressing cloth. Avoid direct heat.
  • Storage: Store flat or lightly rolled. Keep away from sharp edges or jewellery that may catch the fine weave.
  • Handling notes: Georgette may wrinkle more easily than crepe de chine, but creases usually relax naturally with wear or light steaming.

Handled gently, silk georgette retains its softness, movement, and airy character for years.
