Royal Warrant

For more than 40 years we were glove makers ‘by appointment’ to the late Queen, Elizabeth ll. We held a Royal Warrant from 1979 until the death of the Queen in 2022. Our relationship with the Royal Household actually went back much further, to 1947, when the then Princess Elizabeth was married to Prince Philip. In a world made drab by post world war rationing, the Royal wedding provided a much-needed splash of colour and Cornelia James was asked by the royal couturier, Norman Hartnell, to make gloves to accessorise the Princess’ going away outfit.

The Royal Warrant is very special. First and foremost it is a mark of excellence which is recognised all over the world. It opened doors for us commercially and gave us a profile that magnified our actual size as a business and enabled us to punch above our weight. But, more importantly, it imbued everybody involved with our company with a sense of pride and of ownership of the standards required of a Warrant holder; it put a spring in our step and a song in our hearts.

For so many people an abiding image of the late Queen is the white gloved hand waving at the window of the big, black car. And, now, in a slightly less formal world, with new generations of Royals,  we are humbled to see our gloves still taking their place on the public stage.
