The Company

The company was established by Mrs Cornelia James in 1946 and is still wholly owned by the James family. Cornelia had studied art in Vienna and arrived in England as a refugee in 1939. After the war, in a world made drab by rationing, the leather gloves that she made in a huge range of colours became fashion essentials. In 1952 the then Princess Elizabeth chose Cornelia James to make the gloves for her 'going-away' outfit following her marriage to Prince Philip. Since 1986 Cornelia James have been glovemakers 'by appointment' to the Queen and the current holder of the Royal Warrant is Genevieve James.

The future

Over recent years the product range has been expanded significantly and now covers the whole area of fashion accessories from gloves through hats, wraps, stoles, and silk scarves to gilets and jackets in faux fur. The customer list is upscale and include Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Fenwicks in the UK as well as Bon Marche in Paris and Neiman Marcus in the USA.
